Visiting the Writing Center

When I went to go visit the writing center, I was given great advice for how to revise my research paper. Many people as I was informed, (like me) had struggled with the proper APA format for their research paper. The instructor provided me information on how to correct these issues and how to strengthen my transitions between paragraphs. The instructor also read my paper allowed with me to catch an small grammatical errors that were in my paper, this helped me catch many of the errors that I had in my paper that I had not caught previously.

Based on my experience at the writing center, I would most definitely recommend going to the writing center for any student who may be struggling with papers in the future.

Reflection 5

My original goals for my video where to simply add a nice voice over and have a more centralized idea for what I wanted my video to be about as a whole, the original video that I had posted had only text and a very basic sound track followed by 2 images and a short video clip that was not explained very well to begin with. As I’ve been making revisions to my video, I have been progressing toward adding a voice over to the video and making the video as a whole more understandable. I have not really changed my mind on the revisions and goals that I had set for the video previously so I have no new goals or revisions to add. The reasoning behind why I did not have any changes to add is because the goals and revisions that I have already put into place seem to be coming along quite nicely and I’m excited to see the final product.

Free Write Blog Post

For my blog post this week, I wanted to talk about the video that we made in class. I feel like it was a good exercise for the class. This also helped me refresh on my video editing abilities for when I need to use them in the future. This was also good practice in general for citation and finding the copy right free material needed for the project. To be able to know how to find copyright free material is a real skill to have, it will definitely be something that i will be using in the future as well.

Reflection Entry 3

So far as I write this post, the most enjoyable part about finding sources is the information that I am learning on my topic. What’s not so enjoyable is finding the sources themselves. I evaluate my sources by finding keyword articles and such and reading them through ensuring that they are reliable and relatable to what I have to write about. This has helped me research to a higher degree as opposed to previously. Notable parts of my research journey so far include many articles I found wouldn’t relate with my topic and many sources that I found, I ended up deeming unreliable.

Here is one of the websites I am considering for my sources: https://www.research.ibm.com/ibm-q/learn/what-is-quantum-computing/

This website makes a really good point of explaining the basic concept of quantum computers, what they are used for and what they can entail for the near future, what used to be science fiction is now a reality.

Rhetorical characteristics for informal writing would be in my opinion something more personal based on persuading, it’s a type of writing style that really connects with the reader on a more personal basis. A good example of this is rap songs in the current generation. I personally am not a fan of this style of writing myself.

Rhetorical characteristics for formal writing tends to be more professional writings, types of writing that even if it were about a personal topic, would be very filtered and professional toward the reader. A good example of this would be poetry or a research paper of some kind. This tends to be my preferred form of writing when it comes to writing; it feels like a better for of writing for me all in all.

Refection Entry 1

Reflection Entry 1:

For my first week writing sample many things came to fruition. First of all, I didn’t plan out what I was going to write, other than the fact that I made sure to figure out what side of the argument I was on. Next, I wrote my rough draft of the paper, making sure that all of the content was on the page. Finally, after everything was written, I went on and checked my spelling and grammar, as well as the fluidity of the paper. All in all, I believe that my first week writing sample turned out okay. It could have been much better, however, my paper was lacking due to the fact that I had little knowledge of the topic before me.

  1. I will work on my spelling
  2. I will work on my transitioning between paragraphs.
